Document Update to a current version of DirectX
Updating and repairing DirectX resolves many game issues including: insert CD errors, Securom errors, individual games not launching/crashing, and graphics issues.

Always create a system restore point before making changes to DirectX.
  1. To verify the version of DirectX installed on your computer
    1. Select Start and then select Run.
    2. Type dxdiag in the text box and select OK.
    3. On the System tab, the last entry in the System Information section will list the DirectX version.
  2. To set a system restore point:
    1. Select Start and choose All Programs.
    2. Select Accessories, then System Tools.
    3. Select System Restore.
    4. When the program begins, choose Create a Restore Point and select Next.
    5. Enter a description of the restore point (such as Installing DirectX) and select Create. When the program is finished, the date, time, and description of the new restore point will be displayed.
    6. Select Close to exit System Restore.
    7. If a conflict arises, you may wish to restore the computer to it's previous state.
  3. To update to the latest version of Direct X:
    1. Create a folder named Direct X on your desktop.
    2. Navigate to the DirectX download page.
    3. Select Continue to install Windows Genuine Advantage, if necessary.
    4. Select Download and then select to save the file to the Direct X folder on your desktop.
    5. Once the download is complete, select Run to run the file.
    6. You will be prompted to extract the files. Select Browse then double-click on the Direct X folder on your desktop and select OK.
    7. Once the extraction process is completed, navigate to the Direct X folder on your desktop.
    8. Double-click on the file name DXSETUP. When prompted, select I accept the agreement and then select Next.
    9. Select Next again - this will begin the setup process. Once completed, select Finish.
    10. Reboot your computer to complete the installation of Direct X.
