Document How to change the location of stored games
Follow the steps below to change the location where games are stored on your computer. This article does not cover moving games from your original GameTap Client to the new web based client. When GameTap releases software updates these steps may need to be repeated.

WARNING: Editing the registry is a delicate operation and can leave your computer non-functional. GameTap holds no responsibility for damage to your computer or loss of data.

1.)You must have admin rights in order to change the registry.

2.)Close all browser windows, and ensure GameTapWebPlayer.exe is not running by using the Task Manager.
  • Click Start
  • Click Run
  • Type taskmgr into the Run field
  • Click the Processes tab
  • Look for GameTapPlayer.exe
  • If you find this process running, right click on GameTapPlayer.exe and select End Process
  • Close the Task Manager
3.) Open regedit
  • In XP click your Start Menu, then Run, type in regedit and click OK.
  • In Vista click your Start Menu, the type regedit in the search bar.
4.) Navigate to the following key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\TGN, Inc.\GameTap Web Player

5.) Double-click OSShareData, type in the path to the new location for game data, for example;   E:\New GameTap Storage\

6.) Navigate to the following key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Yummy Interactive, Inc.\Player\Applications\.  If this key does not exist, please skip directly to step 8.

7.) For every key inside the Applications key, edit the following:

  - Change the value of Exe to contain the new path, e.g E:\New GameTap Storage\games\150000000\mygame\game.exe
  - Change the value of Mount Point to contain the new path, e.g E:\New GameTap Storage\games\150000000\mygame\

8.) Close regedit

9.) Open the following folder;
C:\Program Files\GameTap Web Player\bin\release

10.)
Open the file local.config with Notepad, change the existing key OSSharedData to match the location you typed in regedit.
  • For example; add key="OSSharedData" value="E:\New GameTap Storage\"
11.) Save and close local.config, reboot your computer.

12.) Copy the contents of the following folder, to your new location. To see these folders you must turn on Show Hidden Folders
  • In XP C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\GameTap Web Player\      --> Your new location
  • In Vista C:\Program Data\GameTap Web Player\     --> Your new location
13.) Go to GameTap.com and visit the My Games page to verify that your games list has migrated properly.
